Workshop: The Synopsis: Four Steps to the Ultimate Sales Tool
See Photos Here

When: March 24, 2007 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Where: Homewood Suites Hotel, 2401 Airport Freeway, Bedford, Texas 76021

Featuring Helen Ginger and Rebecca Balcarcel

Helen Ginger, Creator of Doing It Write, freelance editor and book consultant from Austin, teaches public speaking and leads writing and marketing workshops and is active in both The Writers League of Texas and Sisters in Crime. Ms. Ginger will present a workshop on synopsis, query, and book promotion. (Attendees are encouraged to bring a synopsis in progress)

The only thing most authors dread more than composing the query letter is writing the synopsis. Trying to condense a 300 page novel to one to ten pages can be scary. Book consultant Helen Ginger will walk you through the process step by step, through the development of your novel synopsis as the ultimate SALES tool. Not only will the synopsis become less daunting, you will learn how to use the synopsis to craft your query and pitch the book. By the end of the workshop, you will know the steps to constructing a synopsis and then using that document to craft the blurb for your query, a one-on-one pitch and your elevator spiel.

Ms. Rebecca Balcarcel Teacher of Creative Writing at TCC and UTA, Nonfiction editor Amarillo Bay online literary journal Amarillo Bay online journal. Rebecca is a widely published poet who received her MFA from Bennington Writing Seminars in 2002 and received their Jane Kenyon Poetry Prize.

Ms. Balcarcel will inspire her listeners to elevate the lyrical quality of their prose to excite an editor with her presentation Creating an Experience for the Reader. She will present a collection of techniques to make reading your work the experience every reader and editor craves. Learn about voice, imagery, and passing the "So what? Test," as well as what she looks for when reading submissions and judging contests. A continental breakfast, catered deli lunch and entry in our four-category contest are included in the seminar price of $30.00.
